Comparison of mechanical and biological wastewater treatment plants in terms of financial costs and environmental impact
Winkler, Ondřej ; Výskala, Miloslav (referee) ; Aigel, Petr (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse and compare the operating costs and quality of water discharged at mechanical-biological and root wastewater treatment plants. In the first part, the bachelor thesis deals with theoretical knowledge in the field of wastewater treatment. There is legislation related to WWTPs, types, quantities, and transport of wastewater, it also describes the process and technology of water treatment and, finally, the management of waste generated during treatment and its treatment. The following chapters are devoted to economic indicators of wastewater treatment plants as well as pollution indicators. This part forms the transition between the theoretical and practical part of the bachelor thesis. We will learn here what are the costs of operating the treatment plant and how these costs will be reflected in the calculation of sewerage. We will also learn here which pollution indicators are measured as part of the quality of wastewater discharged from the WWTP. In the following part, the bachelor's thesis deals with the analysis and comparison of the already mentioned costs of operation and quality of discharged water at different types of wastewater treatment plants. The analysis was performed at four root and six mechanical-biological wastewater treatment plants in a total of four districts. The conclusion of the bachelor thesis belongs to the global comparison within the Czech Republic and the evaluation of the goals of the bachelor thesis.
The Research on Regeneration of the Filter Material, used in the Soil Filters and Constructed Wetlands
Burešová, Hana ; Rozkošný,, Miloš (referee) ; Kriška-Dunajský, Michal (advisor)
The thesis consists of two basic parts. The first research part creates an introduction to the root zone wastewater treatment plants. It contains mainly causes of filter environment colmation and its theoretical solution methods, which are further solved in the laboratory. The master’s thesis attempts to find a simple way, which would in future be possible to evaluate the rate of sedimentation of the sludge material, which causes filtration environment colmation. Results of developed methodology will be used in practice by washing colmated filtration material, respectively colmatant separation in sedimentation tank. The thesis focuses to verify the possibility flocculation and mineralization of sludge, which adheres to the surface of the filtration material. The solution lies in the observation of sedimentation rate (after previous dilution) using by the turbidimetric method, based on the beam-column passage through muddy water. The results show that it is not critical ambient temperature, but the time effect of natural mineralization in combination with moisture (dry matter concentration, the amount of water). The present thesis evaluates the possibilities and application method, leading to the natural regeneration of the filtration material exposed to natural climatic conditions.
Design and operation of the coworking space
Koňariková, Lenka ; Struhala, Karel (referee) ; Remeš, Josef (advisor)
The diploma thesis solves the new utilization and renovation of an industrial building near the Baťa canal in the village of Huštěnovice which was used as former pumping station for agricultural purposes. The aim was to find such uses that will support the development of the adjacent area and at the same time will also refer to the original usage of the building. New community centre „PŘÍLIV“ with aquaponics connects both of them and what is more, it offers modern connection of people with nature. The construction plan is solved as a complex project form architectural study, through the project for the building permit to the design of the aquaponics technology itself. Project of the community centre and aquaponics is designed as off-grid building with minimal environmental impact.
Family house
Sviták, Tomáš ; Kateřina,, Komínková (referee) ; Hradil, Dušan (advisor)
Bachelor's thesis deals with a design of an earth sheltered family house for 4 people. New building of single-storey building with a flat vegetative roof is embedded into the surrounding steep terrain. South frontage is designed as a lightweight external cladding using maximum solar gain. From a structural point of view it is a reinforced concrete wall system, which together with the base plate and the ceiling construction creates a rigid spatial unit.
French systems technology for natural wastewater treatment in small municipalities
Tůmová, Tereza ; Němcová, Miroslava Pumprlová (referee) ; Kriška-Dunajský, Michal (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with the "French systems" technology, or French solution for natural wastewater treatment. The system receives raw wastewater (without a pre-settling tank) directly into the first filtration stage, the basic principle of which is to process sludge and wastewater in one step, so there is no need to build settling tanks. It is a natural treatment plant which, thanks to its characteristics, could help small municipalities which, for economic reasons, cannot afford expensive mechanical-biological wastewater treatment plants. The thesis includes a clear description of the procedure for sizing the individual facilities according to foreign literature, and a literature search will be carried out within the theoretical introduction to French systems, including operational experience and results from abroad. The theoretical possibilities of using materials other than natural ones for the creation of the filter cartridge of vertical filters will be described. The practical part of the thesis deals with the specific design of a natural wastewater treatment plant using the French system of wastewater treatment for a part of the village of Jablonové in Slovakia. The condition of the design is to meet the emission limits (within the framework of the current legislation) and to ensure the necessary efficiency of wastewater treatment, especially in the pollution indicators BOD5, COD, TSS, TKN.
Zhodnocení samočistící schopnosti vodního toku Bítýška
Vítová, Kristýna
The bachelor thesis deals with the evaluation of the quality and self-cleaning ability of the Bítýška watercourse in Vysočina. The theoretical part is devoted to the water management legislation of the Czech Republic, water quality including related problems, self-cleaning ability, wetlands and monitored water quality indicators. The next part characterizes the area of interest in terms of natural conditions and hydrology. The practical part describes in detail the collection of water samples, measurement of water quality indicators in the field and laboratory determination of chemical water analysis. The work concludes with an evaluation of the results obtained according to the relevant legislation and discussion. The results of laboratory analysis have demonstrated that the self-cleaning ability of watercourses was exhibited only for half of the monitored period and cannot be unequivocally confirmed. The findings revealed high concentrations of nitrate nitrogen, total phosphorus and chemical oxygen demand caused especially by draining under-cleaned water from root wastewater treatment plant into the watercourse.
The use of high-performance separation techniques for monitoring the bioaccumulation of selected micropollutants in plants of model root treatment plants
Modroczká, Karin ; Sobotníková, Jana (advisor) ; Coufal, Pavel (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the determination of ibuprofen in model root refineries from Phalaris arundinacea extracts. The goal was to find out if the plant is able to accumulate ibuprofen from the aqueous solution which was added to the plant. A HPLC method with UV/VIS detection was also optimized to determine the ibuprofen content. A C18 column (4.6 mm × 150 mm × 3.5 µm) was used to analyse the samples. An isocratic program was used, in which the mobile phase consisted of methanol and an aqueous acetic acid solution of pH = 3,27. As part of the validation of the method, the repeatability, robustness, and yield (which was 99,04 %) of the method were verified. Furthermore, the linearity of the method, which was from 0,01 mg ml-1 to 2,0 mg ml-1 , the limit of detection (LOD = 0,049 mg ml-1 ) and the limit of quantification (LOQ = 0,16 mg ml-1 ) were determined. After the validation of the method, we can claim that the method is accurate, because the values of the relative standard deviations did not exceed 2 %. Infrared spectroscopy was used to verify the purity of ibuprofen batches. Last but not least, it was proven that Phalaris arundinacea has the ability to accumulate ibuprofen from an aqueous solution. Keywords: HPLC, ibuprofen, Phalaris arundinacea, root wastewater treatment plant,...
